MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: Frigidaire GRSS2652AF
The Frigidaire Gallery GRSS2652AF is a 25.6 cu ft side-by-side refrigerator with a through-door ice and water station. Its linked owner manual identifies HI high-temperature text, Power Outage and Door Open indicators, plus the normal Sb Sabbath-mode status.
Match the side-by-side cabinet to its actual control panel
GRSS2652AF is Frigidaire Gallery's stainless-steel, standard-depth side-by-side refrigerator. The exact specification gives 25.6 cubic feet overall, split between 16.6 for fresh food and 9 for the freezer, at 36 1/8 inches wide. This is a two-column cabinet, so its ice path and the external dispenser differ from the freezer-drawer models elsewhere in the brand's range. The SKU sheet lists two crispers with manual humidity controls, a deli drawer, four fresh-food door bins and three adjustable fresh-food shelves. These details make the model more useful to identify than a generic Frigidaire logo on a shared manual.
Its own product page shows a close photograph of the dispenser controls: freezer and refrigerator temperature digits sit above Water, Cube and Crush. The support page links the owner guide that illustrates the same controls. The manufacturer's specification nevertheless says Digital Display No while separately saying On/Off Display Yes and confirming both door-ajar and power-failure alarms. This metadata conflict does not erase what the product photo and operating directions show. We describe the visible LED temperature area and its named signals, without treating the Digital Display field as a reliable yes/no account of what an owner can read.
Set temperatures and understand sleeping controls
The control section gives a normal refrigerator target of 39°F and a freezer target of 0°F, with adjustment ranges of 33–43°F and −6–4°F respectively. A light for Adjusting Temp stays on while a newly requested setting is being reached; a changed number is not necessarily the current air temperature. The guide allows about 24 hours after installation for stabilization. Freeze Boost supports a larger freezer load for up to 12 hours, whereas Chill Boost works on the refrigerator side for six. The Cold Drink Timer is a separate 20–45-minute reminder for beverages in the freezer, with an explicit warning that an unsuitable time or setting can freeze a drink.
By default the panel enters Sleep Mode: its LEDs go dark after a short interval and wake when a key is touched. Holding Crush together with the light control for five seconds changes the sleep behavior to a continuously active display. A dark control area therefore should first be interpreted against this normal mode, particularly if the dispenser still works. Holding the lock control for three seconds prevents setting changes and disables ice and water dispensing; an attempted selection then flashes the lock indicator and sounds a tone. These normal interactions should be noted before calling a silent display, inactive paddle or short beep an unidentified error code.
Distinguish Power Outage, Door Open and HI
The Power Outage indicator has a defined time relationship: it lights and sounds after electrical service has been restored, not necessarily while the refrigerator is without power. Press any control to stop the sound, then inspect the temperatures and food condition. Door Open has a different trigger. After a door remains open five minutes or longer, its label illuminates and an alarm sounds; closing the door clears it, while a key only mutes the tone temporarily. The manual advises checking whether food blocks the opening. These labels are named alerts on this exact side-by-side panel, not alphanumeric diagnoses of a particular part.
High Temp is more specific to the compartment. If internal temperature remains above the safe zone for a period, HI appears on the corresponding fresh-food and/or freezer display and a tone repeats every ten seconds until acknowledged. The refrigerator attempts to cool; the warning can return if temperature fails to improve, and the guide gives Frigidaire's service number for persistent cases. Record which side showed HI and whether Door Open or Power Outage preceded it. HI says the interior is too warm; it does not by itself prove a defective thermistor, compressor or fan. Muting a warning must not substitute for checking food and recovery.
Use the dispenser without confusing its statuses with errors
The exact SKU includes water and ice dispensing. Water, Cube and Crush choose the output, while the ice-maker control needs a three-second hold to change production. An off maker can still dispense ice already in the bin, so a working chute is not proof that new ice is being made. The guide says dispensed water is not chilled; adding ice is the way to obtain a colder drink. It also describes a three-minute continuous-water shutoff that resets when the paddle is released. These design behaviors can explain an apparently stopped flow without inventing a water-system fault code.
For a sluggish ice chute, the manual suggests checking the storage bin before forcing anything. Long storage or an outage can fuse cubes, and a long outage may leave a block that jams the mechanism. Remove, empty, rinse and completely dry the bin; never use a sharp ice pick. When refitting it, do not inadvertently rotate the auger, because a misaligned auger can prevent dispensing and interfere with freezer-door closure. This physical inspection differs from responding to HI. The exact specification also confirms the ice/water dispenser, so the shared owner's dispenser section applies to GRSS2652AF.
Read filter reminders and Sb in the right context
Air Filter and Water Filter on this panel show Good, Order or Replace. They prompt maintenance and reset after a three-second hold on the respective key; they are not HI, Power Outage or Door Open. The owner guide calls for a water-filter change after six months or about 120 gallons dispensed, and the air filter around six months. Its general filter section may cover additional variants, so match a cartridge to the full GRSS2652AF number and existing filter rather than assuming every family part fits. A filter reminder can remain after a replacement until the corresponding reset is used.
The same control pages describe Sabbath mode, entered or exited by holding freezer minus with refrigerator plus for five seconds. Sb is its visible operating status. Lighting, dispenser and panel functions are limited while it is active, and the mode stays selected after power returns. The guide preserves a high-temperature safety alarm in this mode after the cabinet has remained outside the safe zone for twenty minutes; that warning has its own timing. If the display looks inactive, determine whether Sleep Mode, Control Lock or Sb is active. Report unexpected characters to Frigidaire rather than borrowing an E-code list from another refrigerator.
