MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE GDT645SMNES
GE GDT645SMNES is a fingerprint-resistant slate top-control dishwasher with a three-digit display, a bi-color door light and Active Flood Protect. Its owner manual explains LEAK DETECTED.
A top-control slate dishwasher
On GDT645SMNES, GE places eight touchpads along the upper edge rather than on the exposed front. The exact product specification identifies a three-digit countdown, a bi-color status light on the door, separate CLEAN and SANITIZED progress indicators, and a fingerprint-resistant slate exterior. It also lists Active Flood Protect and explains that the water leak sensor reacts to excess water by pumping it out. These exact-model details make the common owner manual applicable in a specific way: its GD*645 panel illustration corresponds to this control family, while the optional leak-protection text is supported by this SKU's feature list. Look at the model label inside the tub before assuming a similar-looking top-control dishwasher has the same alert system.
Separate a leak warning from door status
A written LEAK DETECTED alert is different from the color of the small door light. The manual says a detected leak cancels the wash and drains the dishwasher; its troubleshooting entry treats the words as a possible leak and directs contact with service. Note the message rather than guessing a component or simply running another cycle. During an ordinary wash, the door light is amber and becomes white at completion. Opening the door mid-cycle can produce a flashing Start status, and a door left ajar may prompt a reminder beep every minute. The manual gives a Start-and-close sequence for an interruption. Those normal status signals should not be described as a leak unless the display actually presents the leak text.
Use the delay and one-rack options deliberately
AutoSense and One Hour Wash are among the five cycles listed on the GDT645SMNES product page. AutoSense changes its action with detected soil, whereas the short wash targets lightly soiled dishes. GE also specifies selectable Delay Start from one to twelve hours, plus upper-only and lower-only wash zones. When dishes occupy just one rack, the manual explains that a chosen wash zone targets that rack; it is not a repair option for a stopped cycle. A countdown that reflects delay or an option is therefore read in the context of what was selected. If a full written warning appears, record it separately from the routine remaining-time digits and do not interpret the figures as a numeric fault code.
Loading, sanitation and drying
Four bottle jets and an adjustable upper rack are listed for this slate model, along with a Piranha disposer and removable filtration. The rack can be positioned for tall, dishwasher-safe vessels while leaving the spray arms clear; the jets are an option for hard-to-reach interiors. Dry Boost and fan-assisted drying belong to the exact configuration, so the selected dry setting and the load material matter when judging wet plastics. The Sani choice is also listed as certified to NSF Standard 184. The SANITIZED indicator is conditional on the cycle achieving its required sanitizing conditions; a dark SANITIZED lamp after a particular wash is not itself LEAK DETECTED. Keep observations about cleaning, drying and the actual display wording separate when asking for help.
Care for the ES finish and the filter
Although the marketing description calls the exterior fingerprint-resistant slate, the owner manual's suffix guide places ES in its slate painted-or-coated door group. It recommends a soft, lightly dampened cloth followed by thorough drying for that category. Harsh treatment of the outside panel is a finish issue, not a way to clear a leak warning. The same manual asks owners to inspect filters periodically, approximately every other month depending on use, especially when dishes become gritty. It gives a 120-to-150-degree-Fahrenheit range for incoming water. Those checks help explain routine wash quality and the CLEAN completion light; they do not override the separate service instruction when LEAK DETECTED is shown on the top-control display.
