MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE GSD5620DBB
GE GSD5620DBB is a black 24-inch electronic dishwasher with six progress lights. Its manual restricts the Sensing fault to Normal and Pots & Pans and separates Rinsing and Drying beeping errors.
Recognize the GSD5620 equipment
GE identifies GSD5620DBB as a black, 24-inch dishwasher with electronic ten-touchpad controls and six cycle-progress indicators. Its exact product page describes an ExtraClean sensor, a silverware basket with two cell covers, and two folding tines in the lower rack. The official linked manual names GSD5620 on its cover among several related models, and its control drawing shows Sensing, Washing, Rinsing, Drying and Sanitized status lights. The complete DBB suffix is not printed in that family document, so finish and rack details come from the exact model page. Before diagnosing a lamp, compare the physical panel with the illustrated status column.
Read the sensor and cycle context
The manual restricts its Sensing indicator to Normal and Pots & Pans: CleanSensor checks soil during those cycles and may adjust prewashing. A missing Sensing lamp on China/Crystal or another selection is therefore not automatically a sensor error. GE's exact page lists China/Crystal and Short Wash, while the family diagram uses the term Speed Wash; avoid assuming identical labels on every variant. The manual's China/Crystal chart gives 6.6 gallons and 33 minutes, and Rinse Only 1.6 gallons and four minutes. The product page offers two-, four- and eight-hour delay. Speed Dry in the manual adds 23 minutes to Normal, showing why option choices matter when a run seems unexpectedly long.
Distinguish four status-light situations
Page ten has four distinct diagnostic rows. When Sensing fails to illuminate as expected during Normal or Pots & Pans, GE calls it CleanSensor Error; washing can continue without the sensor, but service is advised. Washing flashing after Start/Reset is ordinary drain-and-reset activity, not the same fault. Rinsing flashing with a beep is Control Error: silence the alarm with Start/Reset, then seek service if the light keeps flashing. Drying flashing with beeps is another Control Error; Start/Reset starts a reset attempt, followed by a restarted wash and service if the error persists. The manual allows about 90 seconds for cancellation, and a steady Clean lamp at completion lasts until the door opens.
Investigate ordinary wash performance
For weak cleaning without the beeping patterns, GE specifies inlet water between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit and says normal food soil need not be pre-rinsed, although hard debris should be removed. The exact model's covered silverware basket can retain small pieces, while the folding lower-rack tines affect how large items are placed. Check that loading does not hide the wash path before treating a long or incomplete wash as a sensor malfunction. Sanitized also depends on the cycle actually meeting sanitization conditions, rather than merely having that status word printed on the control. Record the selected program and status sequence before calling service; the expected Sensing behavior depends on that choice.
