MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE GTW685BPLDG
GTW685BPLDG top-load washer messages H2O SUPPLY, LId, CAnCELEd and balancing, with exact-model dispenser guidance.
Match the GTW685 washer to its own panel
GTW685BPLDG is GE's Diamond Gray, 4.5-cubic-foot top-load washer with a dual-action agitator and stainless-steel basket. The exact product listing specifies 14 cycles, an 800-RPM maximum spin, digital countdown, LED status lights, a soft-close glass lid and the five-choice Stain Removal Guide. Its linked manual includes GTW685 on the cover. Page 6 illustrates two control layouts: the lower one shows the Stain Removal Guide alongside the time display, matching the exact product feature. This matters because the same PDF includes separate GTW750/GTW755 dispensers and water-station controls. The full BPLDG suffix is absent in the manual; exact color and capacity come from the product page.
Understand filling and a changing countdown
Adaptive Fill selects water for the load, so GE asks owners to place dry clothes loosely and evenly around the basket's outer edge. With the lid closed, automatic sensing can briefly spin at the start and take up to three minutes; the manual calls this normal. A lower water line than an older washer is also normal for this high-efficiency design. SEnSing on the display describes sensing size and type, not a failure. The time shown is approximate because fill time depends on home water pressure and the load. Deep Fill is available for special loads: holding that button for three seconds requests the deepest fill, which takes extra time. Watch the actual cycle state before deciding a timer or pump has failed.
H2O SUPPLY is about incoming water
H2O SUPPLY says the washer cannot sense water level, with closed supply valves given as a possible cause. Check that both hot and cold faucets are fully open. If water flow is still weak, the troubleshooting table points to blocked inlet-valve screens; it describes shutting off water before disconnecting hoses to clean the screens. The alert starts a four-minute period in which controls will not respond. Unplugging the machine to skip this wait starts the timer over rather than immediately restoring operation. bALANCING is a separate scrolling status: the washer pauses to redistribute a load. SEnSing is also routine load detection. Reading the full text avoids treating these normal stages as an H2O inlet problem.
Separate LId, CAnCELEd and blinking Spin
LId first tells you the cycle stopped because the lid is open; close it to continue. The Consumer Help Indicator table also uses LId after three cycles were started without opening the lid, requiring an opening before the next cycle. CAnCELEd can follow a pause lasting over 24 hours or a stop before completion caused by certain errors. It brings a four-minute control lockout, and unplugging restarts that wait. A blinking Spin lamp instead reports an out-of-balance load while the washer corrects it; it can remain lit briefly at the end. If clothing is still wet, spread it evenly and use Drain & Spin. This model's 800-RPM rating does not guarantee full-speed spin for an uneven load.
Use the GTW685 dispenser and maintenance schedule
The manual explicitly labels the larger drawer on page 15 for GTW680 and GTW685. Put HE detergent on the right, liquid softener on the left and liquid bleach through the separate front-left opening; single-dose packets belong in the basket, never the drawer. The model's Stain Removal Guide lets you select Tomato, Wine, Blood, Grass or Dirt and adjusts soil and temperature defaults, while Deep Fill is a separate water-level choice. Clean the empty basket with Basket Clean at least monthly, and replace water supply hoses after five years. These controls and upkeep points are more useful to this exact agitator model than the manual's GTW750-only bulk-dispense directions.
