MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JES0736SPSS
JES0736SPSS is a compact 700-watt GE model whose Loc, Unlo and CodE displays represent control state and menu input.
Exact compact model
JES0736SPSS is GE's compact stainless-finish countertop microwave with a 0.7-cubic-foot cavity, specified 700-watt output and 10.625-inch turntable. The exact product sheet confirms Control Lock, Vegetable and Pizza keys, Reheat, Potato, Beverage, Popcorn, and ten power levels. The linked sixteen-page owner's guide names JES0736 on its cover rather than the entire finish suffix, so those exact-SKU specifications establish which family features apply here. Page six draws a touch control display, door-latch release and removable platter. Its compact size makes the numbered serving programs more useful than assuming a large-oven recipe setting will fit. Place the turntable and its support correctly before operating; the guide permits removing them for cleaning but says they must be present in use. Check the full JES0736SPSS nameplate before using these instructions for a visually similar GE model. The panel has both immediate-start food keys and programs that request further input, a difference that explains several apparently puzzling display messages.
Read Loc, Unlo and CodE
Loc, Unlo and CodE are not interchangeable error codes. Page twelve says that holding CLEAR/OFF about three seconds locks the controls and briefly shows Loc. The same printed page shows Unlo briefly when the panel is initially unlocked. These are normal lock-transition indications; a panel that ignores cooking entries while locked is behaving as instructed. CodE appears after pressing Reheat or Vegetable on page ten, prompting selection of the numbered food type. Reheat then asks for one to four servings, except its leftovers-plate option, which only accepts one. Vegetable asks for fresh, frozen or canned type and a serving count. Entering the type is part of programming; a waiting CodE display does not diagnose a failed sensor. If the control panel lights but heating will not begin, page fourteen lists practical checks: close the door firmly, enter the missing time or food weight, press Start/Pause, and clear an earlier selection with CLEAR/OFF. A paused cycle needs Start/Pause again. Record exactly which label appears and what key preceded it before seeking service.
Portion-specific convenience keys
The convenience keys are unusually specific for this small oven. Reheat's six food types are pasta, meats, vegetables, beverages, sauces and a plate of leftovers. Vegetable has three separate choices for fresh, frozen and canned produce, each with one to four servings. Pizza is a direct-start shortcut: one press warms one slice and up to four presses select four slices. Potato similarly selects one to four potatoes, with the manual specifying eight-to-ten-ounce pieces. Popcorn on page ten accepts only prepackaged 3.0- or 3.5-ounce bags; one or two presses select the size. Beverage starts immediately and cycles through four, eight, twelve and sixteen ounces. These inputs differ: a food type and serving count are necessary for Reheat and Vegetable, while the repeated Pizza, Potato and Beverage presses launch at once. The owner's table therefore matters more than guessing from a keypad label. For an out-of-range portion, use Time Cook with a chosen duration and check the food rather than forcing a preset to represent another quantity.
Time, defrost and independent timer
Time Cook begins at power level ten but allows another of ten levels to be selected; page seven also permits changing the level during the countdown. Lower settings apply microwave energy for a smaller portion of each interval, which the guide discusses for delicate food and defrosting. Add 30 Seconds can start a brief cook immediately or add thirty seconds repeatedly, up to the stated ninety-nine-minute-and-ninety-nine-second limit. Auto Defrost calculates time and power from entered weight for meat, poultry and fish up to six pounds; Time Defrost takes a selected duration for other frozen foods, with a turn halfway through. For its weight entry, the printed conversion guide changes ounces to tenths of a pound, so entering the package's ounce number directly would misstate the load. The independent Timer on page twelve uses no microwave energy and has its own three-second Timer hold to stop it; CLEAR/OFF does not cancel that countdown. This difference helps distinguish a timer running from cooking in progress.
