MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JS960WBWW
GE JS960WBWW is a white slide-in electric range with a bridge glass cooktop, dual element, True European Convection and self-clean oven. Its JS960 guide documents a generic flashing F warning.
Identify the bridge-equipped electric range
JS960WBWW is the complete identifier of GE's white-on-white slide-in electric range, not a freestanding gas model. The exact product listing describes a glass-ceramic smoothtop with a bridge element and a 6/9-inch dual element. Four hot-surface indicator lights matter because an element can be switched off while the glass remains hot. The linked JS960 manual says its light continues until the surface cools to roughly 150°F. Its bridge directions separate heating the front area alone from using the bridge setting with the rear unit; the dual right-front control instead lets the cook choose a smaller or larger ring to match pan diameter. These are different controls, so an apparently cool unused zone should not be inferred from another knob's position. Match the whole suffix when reviewing element placement, control markings or a replacement glass top.
Use the convection oven and shelves
The oven on this exact range uses GE's True European Convection system and comes with three racks. Its manual shows four shelf positions, which is a separate fact from the count of supplied racks. Convection Bake circulates heat from a rear element and is useful for multiple shelves; Convection Roast uses the upper heating element with fan circulation for large tender cuts. The instructions discuss a special roasting rack over the broiler pan and grid, with the food on the lowest shelf position. Ordinary Bake is also available and does not require treating the convection fan as a fault when it stops after the door opens. For normal baking, place a rack before heating and watch for the five-short-beep preheat signal. Timed baking turns heating off after the chosen duration, whereas the kitchen timer is only a reminder. Record which mode was active before interpreting an unexpected sound or display change.
Prepare the self-clean and glass cooktop
GE lists a self-cleaning oven and automatic self-clean door lock for JS960WBWW. The owner guide says to take out cookware, foil, broiler pan and grid before a clean cycle, and to wipe large spills from the oven bottom. A normal cleaning time is four hours, adjustable between three and five according to soil. The door locks automatically and should stay closed until the cavity cools below the locking temperature and the LOCKED DOOR light goes out. That waiting period is not itself an F error. The guide also treats the glass surface separately: use an appropriate cooktop cream on cool glass and its recommended scraper for heavy burned-on soil. Do not use the oven's high-temperature cleaning cycle as a method for the top. The four hot-surface lights remain the appropriate cue for residual cooktop heat after the controls are off.
Read an F warning without confusing normal states
On physical PDF page 34, a flashing F followed by a number or letter is called a function error code. The guide gives no suffix-to-part dictionary. Press Clear/Off, let the oven cool for an hour and retry. If the warning returns, disconnect all range power for at least 30 seconds before reconnecting; continuing recurrence is a service matter. Write down the entire display and whether Bake, Broil, Convection or Self Clean was selected. The same table separately calls flashing LOCK DOOR a request to close the door before self-clean; an illuminated LOCKED DOOR light while trying to cook can simply mean that the cavity has not cooled enough to unlock. A blank display or flashing clock after a power outage has another explanation. Distinguishing those observations prevents a normal lock or lost clock setting from being treated as a specific F failure.
