MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JT950BABB
GE JT950BABB is a black-on-black 30-inch double wall oven. Convection and its probe are upper-only; its linked manual describes a generic F-plus-character fault.
Identify the two different ovens
The exact GE JT950BABB page describes a black-on-black, thirty-inch double wall oven with SmartSet controls. Its upper cavity has convection cooking and three racks, while the lower cavity uses traditional heat and has two racks. GE lists seven rack positions above and six below. The official PDF linked from that SKU names JT950 among its supported models, but the BABB sales suffix is not on the shared cover; color and rack count come from the exact page. Because the cavities have different equipment, a cooking report should state upper or lower before listing a temperature or mode. Convection Bake and Convection Roast are specified for the upper cavity. A lower-oven complaint cannot simply follow upper-oven fan or probe instructions, even though both share the overall appliance and central display.
Keep probe and conversion in the upper cavity
The product's automatic meat thermometer and Convection Conversion are upper-oven features. The manual explicitly says double models put the probe in the upper cavity only; a plugged-in probe can also prevent Broil from starting. If PROBE flashes with a signal after insertion, the guide may be asking for a target food temperature rather than reporting a failed component. Convection Conversion is a different control feature: its example reduces an entered 350 degrees Fahrenheit recipe setting to 325, and the guide says it must be selected each time. Those two functions can alter expectations for temperature or timing without indicating a fault. Timed Delay Bake with Cook and Hold belongs to this SKU; record whether the cooking was timed. The manual enters special features through the upper controls on double units, which also explains why the lower keypad may not show the same setup path.
Interpret the display without inventing F suffixes
Page six calls F followed by a number or letter with a control signal a function error code. It does not supply a decoder for each appended character. GE instructs Clear/Off, an hour of cooling, and another attempt at operation. If the code comes back, disconnect power and request service. This older JT950 manual does not set the fixed thirty-second power interval found in some later GE guides, so the page should report its actual direction. Make a note of the whole F display and which cavity was active. A PROBE prompt or a flashing clock after a power interruption has a different explanation and should not be relabeled as an F error. The practical value of this article is matching the exact GE display row, not guessing a board or sensor diagnosis from an unrelated code site.
Separate ordinary fan and cleaning states
Both cavities have self-cleaning door locks according to the exact model specification, yet the temperature probe must be removed before a cleaning cycle. A cooling fan may continue running after either oven is switched off; the guide treats that as normal internal cooling. The upper convection fan likewise stops when the door opens without necessarily switching the heat off. Check door state and elapsed cooling time before assuming an electronic fault because a lock remains engaged. For weak baking, compare rack position and cavity: an upper convection recipe may need different timing from traditional lower heating. GE's black finish and frameless doors are model-specific identifiers, but they do not change the generic F response. Keeping mode, cavity, fan, lock and code as separate observations makes a service description far more precise.
