MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JVM1350SY
GE Profile JVM1350SY is a stainless 1.3-cu-ft, 900-watt over-range microwave with 300-CFM two-speed venting, sensor programs and a food probe. Its manual explains SENSOR ERROR as an interrupted or unsuccessful sensing cycle.
A microwave and range hood in one location
JVM1350SY is the stainless member of GE Profile's Spacemaker XL over-range line. GE rates its cavity at 1.3 cubic feet and microwave output at 900 watts; the linked owner cover also names base JVM1350 and 900 watts. Above a cooktop it acts as an externally vented hood, with a two-speed fan rated 300 cubic feet per minute. Full-view lighting and a programmable night light address the surface below rather than heating food inside the cavity. These exterior functions explain why a warm oven floor can be felt when the lower lamp has operated; the troubleshooting table treats that warmth as normal. The 30-inch cabinet fit and stainless door are exact-product characteristics. A ten-level electronic control and one-through-six-minute Express Cook keys support ordinary timed heating. The presence of a sensor program does not mean every food should be heated automatically; cooking method and cookware still matter. A loose wall plug or tripped breaker belongs to a no-start question, not to SENSOR ERROR.
Using probe, shelf and sensor menus
GE gives this model sensor programs for Popcorn, Fish, Reheat and other food groups, plus Auto Roast with a temperature probe. The probe goes into the center of the food and firmly into the oven-wall receptacle. Page twenty-two says the turntable stays still when that probe is active, which is an expected operating change. Without the probe, the removable turntable and its support need to be correctly placed for regular use. A two-position shelf can handle more than one dish, but the manual says to remove it for Popcorn, Sensor Cooking and Reheat. The lower shelf position accommodates certain large dishes; the upper position makes a second cooking level. It must not rest on the oven floor or be paired with a browning dish. Popcorn in the linked instructions assumes a packaged bag weighing 1.75 to 3.5 ounces; another size is directed to manual Micro Cook. This is why knowing which accessory and program were used helps interpret a displayed message.
Why the Popcorn sensor may stop
The concrete example of SENSOR ERROR is on page twenty-seven: opening the door while POPCORN remains on screen makes the message appear. The guide says to close the door, use Clear/Off and begin again. Its troubleshooting table broadens the context: a sensor cycle can fail when the door opens before steam is detected or when steam never appears within the maximum sensing period. The message therefore reports an interrupted or unsuccessful program, not a proven broken humidity sensor. Keep the door closed until the display moves into its countdown. Use packaging and serving size the program expects, and allow vapor to reach the sensing system. If the food remains underheated after an unsuccessful cycle, the source recommends Micro Cook for extra time. A child-locked keypad is yet another reason controls may not respond; the manual describes holding Clear/Off to unlock, rather than repeatedly running Popcorn. The display text and program context matter more than a generic repair guess.
Probe messages are separate from sensor cooking
PLEASE INSERT PROBE and BAD PROBE refer to temperature-probe cooking, which is different from steam-based Sensor Reheat. The first wording means the probe was forgotten or not seated properly in its wall socket. BAD PROBE can also mean a poor connection; if reseating does not help, the source lists a defective probe and its replacement. Do not pull that conclusion from SENSOR ERROR alone. The probe should be in food, not left against the oven wall, and is ill suited to a frozen item in which its tip could break. The turntable's pause with probe use is expected, while a missing probe can prevent Temp Cook or Roast from starting. Check the exact wording before choosing a correction. Reheating a large portion with Sensor Reheat may also exceed the program's single-serving intent, so a timed method is more suitable. These distinctions let an owner separate normal control limits, accessory placement and a genuinely persistent fault.
