MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE JVM1661WB

White GE Profile JVM1661WB is a 1.6-cu-ft, 1000-watt recirculating microwave with a food temperature probe. Its guide separates SENSOR ERROR from PLEASE INSERT PROBE and BAD PROBE.

A white Profile unit with non-vented hood

JVM1661WB is the white, non-vented GE Profile member of the JVM1661 over-range line. The exact product page lists 1.60 cubic feet and 1000 watts, a 13.5-inch glass turntable and a two-speed hood. Its air returns to the room, so GE includes a JX81A charcoal kit rather than treating charcoal as a later option. Fish, ground meats and vegetables with three codes join its Instant-On sensor selections. Four sound levels and concurrent SmartControl programming belong to this particular control panel. The owner manual cover lists JVM1660 and JVM1661 at 1000 watts; the GE product link supplies the WB suffix and white finish. It is a traditional microwave even though the guide discusses roasting with a temperature probe: that word describes a probe-guided microwave process, not a convection heating element. The turntable has an on/off feature, but the manual gives a different reason it may stop during probe use.

The food probe is a separate measuring tool

The temperature probe is a food thermometer plugged into a socket in the cavity wall. Temp Cook/Roast requires it. Push its tip into the centre of food and seat the cable fully in the wall outlet; the turntable does not rotate while the probe operates. This system can aim at a temperature you choose, choose medium or well for a roast, or use a simmer setting. Once the set temperature is reached, the manual describes a sixty-minute hold. Batters, frozen food and items difficult to control by internal temperature suit Time Cook better. Never leave the probe loose in the cavity when it is not inserted in food: touching metal can cause arcing. These are food-temperature instructions, not the same as the steam sensor used by Popcorn or Reheat. If the panel asks for a probe, first inspect this physical connection before blaming humidity detection.

Instant-On menus and shelf placement

The Popcorn program accepts 1.75-to-3.5-ounce packaged bags. If the door opens while POPCORN is still displayed, the guide says SENSOR ERROR appears; close it, press Clear/Off and start over. A bag outside the accepted size needs Time Cook. More generally the troubleshooting table says SENSOR ERROR can also follow an early opening before steam or no steam by the maximum time. Sensor Reheat is only for recommended single servings; a large dish should use manual time. The shelf is reserved for reheating on more than one level and must come out for Sensor Cooking, Reheat and Popcorn. Its incorrect placement can create sparks. The recirculating hood needs its reusable grease filter plus charcoal filtration, with the former cleaned regularly. FOOD IS READY on the display is a normal completion reminder, not a diagnostic alert.

Three diagnostic paths and one control lock

PLEASE INSERT PROBE means Temp Cook/Roast cannot find a properly seated food probe; put it into the food and push its connector into the wall socket. BAD PROBE can arise from an incomplete connection or a defective probe. Reseat it first and replace the probe only if the warning remains with the connection correct. SENSOR ERROR points instead to the steam-sensing sequence, so replacing the food probe for that text alone would mix up two distinct systems. LOCKED denotes the child-control lock and is released by holding Clear/Off for about three seconds. A warm cavity floor can be explained by the cooktop lamp underneath. For service, note which program was active, whether the probe was installed, the exact display words and the moment the door opened. Those observations distinguish a connection issue from a timed sensing interruption.
