MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PGF700AYFS
PGF700AYFS gas range with included reversible grill, Steam Clean and F/Loc display guidance.
Recognize the included reversible griddle
PGF700AYFS is the 30-inch Profile gas member of GE's 700 family, with a 5.3-cubic-foot convection cavity and backsplash cap-touch oven controls. Its cooktop is especially identifiable: the left front Power Boil burner is listed at 18,000 BTU, the right front at 15,000 and the center at 8,000. GE supplies an integrated reversible cast grill/griddle for the center, rather than merely advertising an optional accessory. Set it only over that middle burner as the owner diagram shows. The smooth griddle face and ribbed grill face have different jobs; neither belongs across the two front burners. GE recommends preheating the griddle before food is added and cleaning away grease underneath once everything is cool. A poorly seated accessory or an unsuitable pan is a surface-cooking issue, not evidence that an oven display code has diagnosed a defective board.
Choose a cooking mode and a reheat level
The official linked booklet groups 600 and 700 gas ranges under one cover, so its drawings must be read with the exact PGF700AYFS listing. This SKU confirms No Preheat Air Fry, No Preheat Pizza, Convection Bake, Convection Roast and Fresh Reheat. On the rendered 700 panel those controls sit near Steam Clean and Wi-Fi. The two nickel racks can use six positions, but each program has its own placement rules. Pizza No Preheat is described for frozen pizza on a single rack; the food goes in before or immediately after starting the mode. Fresh Reheat is different: it warms food already cooked and refrigerated, without preheating. Its High choice is for thinner portions such as slices or fries, while Low is intended for thicker or larger servings prone to over-browning. The reheat guide recommends rack position three. Check several spots with a food thermometer rather than treating the displayed program name as proof the center is hot.
Separate timed cooking from remote control
The control system offers local Cook Time and a separate Timer On/Off. Cook Time counts down oven cooking and switches the oven off when complete; the kitchen timer can sound while heating continues. That distinction matters when the complaint is that the range 'did not stop'. The exact GE page also lists Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Chef Connect through the app and app-based Delay Start. Those connected controls extend convenience, but the troubleshooting page has separate rows for an old router, remote enablement and no wireless signal. A remote failure therefore needs connection checks before it is treated as an oven heating failure. If the touch keys do not respond locally, look at the actual display before resetting everything. The Lock Control key requires a three-second hold and intentionally disables the other pads. A clock flashing after an outage is yet another state, documented apart from both the lock and an F function code.
Read F, Loc and a flashing clock correctly
For an oven message, copy the complete characters and note whether they flash. The owner table calls F followed by a number or letter a function error. It tells the user to press Cancel, allow the oven to cool, and put it back into operation. If that sequence repeats, press Cancel again, remove all oven power for at least thirty seconds and call for service if the code comes back. The table does not identify a particular sensor, burner or replacement circuit board from the F suffix alone. 'Loc' instead accompanies an illuminated lock icon; turn off Lock Controls rather than using the F reset route. A flashing clock after a surge belongs to the power-history route. When asking for help, give the full PGF700AYFS suffix, the literal screen text, whether the oven had been cooking or cleaning, and whether only remote control failed. Those observations preserve the distinction between a deliberate lock, a lost connection and a persistent electronic function fault.
Care for the steam-clean cavity and cast accessory
GE specifies Steam Clean with the EasyWash oven tray for this exact 700 model; the family's mention of Self Clean on some ranges is not a promise of that cycle here. Let the cavity cool first. For a small spill, the manual directs half a cup of water onto the oven floor, a closed door and a thirty-minute Steam Clean run without opening the door. Residual water may be hot, so wait before wiping soil or handling the EasyWash tray. Reinstalling that tray level and in the correct orientation matters for cooking performance. The reversible cast accessory has its own care: allow it to cool, clear debris and grease beneath it, and avoid treating it like a disposable oven liner. The range also has a storage drawer, not a second baking cavity. Keep cleaning questions, flame complaints, app connection problems and recurring F displays separate when reporting service symptoms, because the manual gives different next steps for each.
