MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PSB1001NSS
PSB1001NSS is a 27-inch, 120-V GE Profile Advantium wall oven with a 1.60-cu-ft cavity, 975-W microwave and extensive food-specific sensor menus. Its 2009 PSB1001 manual documents SENSOR ERROR.
Confirm the compact 120-V Advantium variant
PSB1001NSS is a built-in GE Profile Advantium wall oven sized for a 27-inch cabinet, finished Stainless Steel on Black. GE specifies 120-volt, 60-hertz input, so the electrical context differs from some wider Advantium installations. The single cavity is 1.60 cubic feet. The 2009 official PDF cover explicitly names the PSB1000 and PSB1001 family, while the exact GE product listing establishes this NSS sales suffix. Controls combine glass-touch keys, a dial and an electronic scrolling display. There are more than 175 preset recipes, plus saved custom recipes, Repeat Last and a cooking guide. The display may change cooking time in a preset when it senses the home's voltage, an especially relevant behavior for this 120-V model. That adjustment is documented operation rather than a fault. Use the complete PSB1001NSS number when ordering a white-versus-stainless panel, rack or replacement tray. The cabinet width and voltage should be checked from the exact unit before planning installation or any electrical work.
Use Speedcook presets and distinct trays correctly
Its listed programs combine Speedcook, Convection Bake, Broil, Microwave, Warm/Proof, Toast and Soften/Melt in one cavity. The microwave portion delivers 975 watts and GE names Beverage, Popcorn, Reheat, Eggs, Meats, Rice and Vegetable sensor controls. A 16-inch turntable, non-stick speedcook tray, convection tray, ceramic pan and wire rack are listed for this SKU. The manual puts food directly on the non-stick metal tray for Speedcook, where halogen, ceramic heaters and microwaves work together and the door and dish can become hot. By contrast, a microwave selection requires the clear glass tray on the turntable with microwave-safe cookware. Do not transfer a metal Speedcook tray or wire rack into a microwave program merely because it fits. To run a preset, use the dial to choose category, food and amount; the screen can prompt to turn food or check doneness. If a selection is wrong, Back lets the owner correct it before heating starts. These mode-specific steps explain many poor results without assuming the appliance has lost power.
Keep the sensor phase uninterrupted
The microwave sensor feature detects rising humidity from food and adjusts duration. Physical PDF page 27 warns not to open the door until time begins counting down. If it is opened while SENSOR Cooking, SENSOR ERROR appears; close the door and press START/PAUSE. A normal time-cooking pause is not the same sequence. The manual also warns against using the same sensor feature twice in succession on an already partly cooked portion because it may severely overcook. Use COOK BY TIME for any extra heating after a sensor run. A cavity made hot by Speedcook may temporarily switch the requested sensor operation to timed cooking; note that change rather than guessing at a damaged board. Record which food option and amount were selected, whether a countdown had begun and if the door was opened. The guidance on page 26 says to use suitable microwave containers, vented covers, and dry container exteriors; droplets already on a dish can mislead the humidity response. Beverages are best heated uncovered.
Trace the food and steam causes of SENSOR ERROR
A separate problem-solver row on physical page 33 shows SENSOR ERROR with an oven signal when the food type or amount does not match the selected program. It tells the owner to press CLEAR/OFF and select the program for the food or liquid actually present. The same row offers another cause: steam did not reach the sensor because wrap was unvented, a lid fitted too tightly or liquid was covered. Vent the wrap, loosen the lid or uncover the liquid. These explanations are distinct from the door-opening interruption on page 27. Neither says that a sensor component must be replaced. If the alert persists after an uninterrupted run using the right choice, food quantity and covering, report all of those facts plus the exact display and PSB1001NSS to service. Do not repeat sensor cycles indefinitely on the same portion as a diagnostic test; the manual warns of overheating. A careful report lets the technician separate control input, container setup and genuine persistent fault.
Verified model details
