MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PSB9100SFSS
PSB9100SFSS is GE's stainless 27-inch Advantium wall oven with six cooking modes. Its PSB9100 guide documents SENSOR ERROR in microwave sensor cooking.
Identify the compact 27-inch unit
GE's PSB9100SFSS is a stainless steel Profile Advantium single wall oven designed for a nominal 27-inch cabinet. Its overall width is 26.75 inches, and the listed capacity is 1.70 cubic feet. Those figures describe one shared cooking cavity, not a microwave stacked on a separate baking oven. The exact product listing gives a 16-inch turntable and a 950-watt microwave rating. This is important when identifying the appliance: the PSB9100 name on the owner's cover establishes the manual family, while the SFSS suffix on the product page establishes its finish and exact configuration. Installation should use the dedicated dimensional instructions and the actual cabinet opening, rather than assuming that another 27-inch appliance will fit. The single-cavity design also means that an accessory left inside for one mode can affect the next mode, even though the controls show many cooking choices.
Choose a program with the dial
The product lists Speedcook, Microwave, Convection, Broil, Proof and Warm. Its control set combines glass touch pads with a turn-and-press selector dial; more than 175 programmed menu selections are listed. The manual describes speedcook as halogen and ceramic heating with a microwave boost for some foods, whereas conventional bake uses circulated heated air. These are different heat paths, so a change in lamp brightness during speedcook is not by itself a failed bulb. The Favorite Recipe feature can store up to 30 custom or copied choices; it does not mean every preset was saved by the owner. A cook can use the dial to select food, amount and doneness, or use a custom program where the guide allows it. The halogen interior lighting, microwave power rating and menu count belong to this exact SKU. Record the chosen mode when reporting a problem because a sensor message is meaningful only in a microwave sensor program.
Keep accessories in their assigned modes
The physical manual separates the nonstick metal tray for speedcook and bake from the clear glass tray for microwave cooking. It places either on the turntable, which must be seated correctly on its center spindle. Its wire rack and aluminum baking sheet are for specified two-level baking, broiling and toasting arrangements; they are not a general substitute for the microwave tray. The owner's baking instructions also distinguish preheated cooking from starting without preheat. A warm cavity, a fan continuing to cool the appliance after the cycle, and a halogen lamp changing intensity can therefore have ordinary explanations. If food browns poorly, first note whether the metal tray, baking sheet and selected heat program match the recipe. If a microwave dish does not heat evenly, check the glass tray and the turntable before treating the oven as a convection problem.
Let the sensor phase run
PSB9100SFSS has sensor Cook and Reheat controls in its exact specification. The owner guide confines this feature to Advantium's microwave mode. It chooses time according to food and steam, so the initial display need not begin with a visible countdown. Use a microwave-safe container, an appropriately vented lid or film, and a dry outside surface; droplets already on the vessel can mislead sensing. GE says not to open the door before the countdown starts. Opening during sensor cooking can show SENSOR ERROR; close the door and press START/PAUSE to resume. A cavity still hot from speedcook can instead switch to time cooking. Do not put the same portion through the sensor feature twice in succession: if it needs more heat, use COOK BY TIME. These instructions apply to the sensor microwave program, not to every baking or proofing mode advertised for the unit.
Interpret a sensor error and normal display behavior
The troubleshooting table gives two additional routes to SENSOR ERROR. The food type or quantity might not match the selected program; CANCEL/OFF and a matching choice address that condition. Alternatively, the oven might not sense steam because wrap was unvented, the lid too tight or a liquid covered. Vent or loosen the cover, or uncover the liquid, following the page's directions. Neither entry maps the display to a particular failed sensor or control board. Keep the exact message, selected food, portion, container, cover and door-opening sequence for service if a correct run still fails. Another display detail is unrelated: the clock intentionally goes dark after 30 idle seconds to reduce standby power and returns when the door opens or the oven is in use. A blank idle clock, a cooling fan and SENSOR ERROR should be described separately rather than conflated as one electrical fault.
