MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE PSB9240BLTS

PSB9240BLTS is a fingerprint-resistant black-stainless GE Profile Advantium wall oven with 1.70-cu-ft cavity, 950-W microwave and 208/240-V input. Its linked 2016 PSB9240 guide documents SENSOR ERROR for food or steam mismatch.

Check finish and electrical version first

PSB9240BLTS is a GE Profile single wall oven sized for a 30-inch cabinet. Its fingerprint-resistant Black Stainless exterior identifies the BLTS finish, while the one 1.70-cubic-foot cavity contains all of the Advantium heating methods. The exact GE page specifies 240/208 V at 60 Hz, so it must not inherit a 120-V electrical specification merely because another Advantium looks similar from the front. The linked owner PDF is the December 2016 PSB9240 guide; the cover names the family and the GE product listing confirms the full BLTS suffix. A selector dial, glass-touch keys and over 175 programmed selections form the control interface. In a replacement inquiry, finish, cabinet dimensions and supply rating matter alongside the model number; they determine whether a proposed fascia or unit is appropriate. Read the physical nameplate before electrical work. A black finish also calls for matching the right handle and frame instead of assuming all PSB9240 suffixes share cosmetic parts.

Use presets and purpose-specific pans

GE rates the microwave function at 950 W and lists Cook, Defrost, Express and Reheat among its sensor controls. The same chamber also performs Speedcook, Convection, Broil, Proof and Warm. Its exact accessories include a porcelain baking/speed-cook pan, a separate grill pan, wire rack and 16-inch turntable. The family manual illustrates selecting a Speedcook preset by category, then food, amount and degree of doneness. It also describes adjusting power for custom Speedcook rather than using the microwave's ordinary time-only heating path. For microwave use, page 20 calls for the clear glass tray on the turntable, with safe cookware; a high-heat pan is not a general-purpose microwave tray. The manual has a particularly useful behavior note: during a microwave cycle this model's cavity light does not come on automatically; the Defrost pad can illuminate it briefly. Therefore a dark cavity while food still heats does not by itself prove a lamp failure. Record mode, tray and actual outcome when investigating a complaint.

Set up moisture sensing before cooking

Sensor microwave recipes depend on released moisture as well as a selected food program. The manual directs microwave-safe containers with lids or plastic wrap that is vented, and warns that a tight plastic seal can hold steam in and overcook the food. It also asks for a dry container exterior and dry oven interior before starting; surface water that becomes steam can mislead sensing. Beverage guidance differs from casserole guidance: a liquid is best heated uncovered. Choose the food and quantity shown on the actual program menu, not a vaguely similar preset because its name sounds convenient. The Speedcook food categories and the microwave sensor choices are separate menus even though both are chosen with the same dial. If a meal is still underheated after one sensor run, follow the guide's time-cooking path rather than repeating sensor on the same partially cooked portion. This helps avoid overcooking while also giving a clear record of what program was actually attempted.

Read SENSOR ERROR as a food-or-steam clue

On the visually checked physical PDF page 30, the troubleshooting table labels SENSOR ERROR with an oven signal. It says the food amount or type may not match the selected program; press CANCEL/OFF and reselect for the food or liquid present. In the same row, steam may not be sensed because wrap was unvented, a lid sealed too tightly or a liquid was covered. Vent the wrap, loosen the lid or uncover the liquid accordingly. The table does not equate this message with a failed sensor board or provide a component-by-code list. Note the chosen menu, portion size, container, covering and whether the room or tray was already wet. If an appropriate, uninterrupted sensor program still gives the message, provide PSB9240BLTS and the complete display to service. Normal cooling-fan operation, cycling Speedcook lights and a dark cavity light during microwaving are separate observations described in the guide; they should not be folded into the SENSOR ERROR diagnosis.
