MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PSB9240DFWW
GE Profile PSB9240DFWW is a white 30-inch Advantium single wall oven combining 950-W microwave, Speedcook, convection and broil modes. Its official PSB9240 guide explains SENSOR ERROR during sensor microwave cooking.
Identify the white single-cavity Advantium
PSB9240DFWW is a white GE Profile 30-inch single wall oven with Advantium technology. Although it offers several ways to heat food, it has one 1.70-cubic-foot cavity, not stacked microwave and thermal compartments. The exact GE listing names Speedcook, Microwave, Convection, Broil, Proof and Warm modes, with a 950-watt microwave function. A frameless glass door, white color-matched handle, selector dial and glass-touch controls identify the DFWW finish. The linked GE owner's PDF is a 2013 PSB9240 Advantium guide; its cover establishes the family, and the exact GE product page establishes this full suffix. The 16-inch turntable is a core part of its cooking arrangement, and the product also lists a metal oven pan and wire rack. Those accessories are not interchangeable across modes just because they fit the same cavity. When looking for replacement trays, door trim or a control, use PSB9240DFWW rather than only PSB9240, so the white finish and installed controls are not lost.
Keep each tray with its cooking mode
Microwave sensor Cook and Reheat are part of this model's documented controls, alongside Defrost and Express. For microwave heating, the manual places food or a microwave-safe container on the clear glass tray with the turntable correctly installed. It explicitly says not to use the wire oven rack for microwave mode and warns that using a metal tray there gives inferior performance. Metal cookware supplied for speedcooking or convection has a different role. This distinction matters when a user sees poor heating or arcing: first ask which mode and which tray were used, rather than treating all Advantium programs as ordinary microwaving. The turntable must remain seated; the guide explains cleaning the area beneath it and replacing it on its central spindle with the marked TOP side facing up. Sensor cooking also depends on the food's moisture and the container surface. The manual recommends microwave-safe vessels, vented covers and a dry exterior so droplets on a container do not mislead the sensing process. An uncovered beverage follows different covering guidance from a covered casserole.
Avoid interrupting the sensor phase
In sensor Cook, the oven watches conditions and determines cooking time instead of requiring the user to enter a fixed interval. The countdown does not start immediately. Physical PDF page 31 says not to open the door until the countdown appears; opening it during SENSOR Cooking produces SENSOR ERROR. If that happened, close the door immediately and press START/PAUSE to resume. Do not launch the same sensor feature twice in succession on the same food portion, because it can overcook or burn; if food still needs more time, select COOK BY TIME. If the cavity is hot from an earlier operation, the oven may change from sensor to timed cooking and ask for a food weight or amount. These behaviors are part of the manual's description, so a changed display alone does not prove failure. Note the program, whether the countdown had begun, and whether the door was opened. That timeline is far more helpful than merely recording the words SENSOR ERROR.
Check food choice and steam before blaming hardware
Physical page 37 gives two other explanations when SENSOR ERROR appears with an oven signal. The food type or quantity may not match the selected program; the manual directs owners to press CANCEL/OFF and choose a program matching what is actually being heated. Separately, the oven may not sense steam because plastic wrap was unvented, the lid too tight, or a liquid was covered. Vent wrap, use a looser lid or leave liquids uncovered as instructed. These conditions are different from the early-door-opening case on page 31 and none identifies a failed sensor component. Dry the outside of a container and the cavity before another sensor attempt, and do not tightly seal a plastic container because pressure and overheating are possible. If the message persists after the correct food, amount, cover and uninterrupted run, report PSB9240DFWW, the full display, chosen sensor program, tray and covering to service. Do not translate this single message directly into a replacement sensor order.

Use the clear glass tray for microwave; the metal pan and wire rack have different mode limits.
