MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE PVM9215DFBB

Black GE Profile PVM9215DFBB has a 2.1-cu-ft microwave cavity, MyPlate and Steam menus, 14.25-inch turntable, one reheating shelf and a 400-CFM hood. The owner guide gives two causes for SENSOR ERROR.

A large black microwave above the range

PVM9215DFBB is the black version of GE Profile's PVM9215 over-range sensor microwave. The exact GE listing gives a 2.10-cubic-foot interior, 1000 watts of output, a recessed 14.25-inch glass turntable and an Easy Clean surface. This is a microwave cooking model; the presence of a wire shelf does not turn it into a convection oven. A two-line scrolling display works with touch controls and a selector dial. Above the cooktop, the exhaust moves up to 400 cubic feet per minute through four speeds including Boost, with a halogen surface light. GE lists exterior venting, while an included charcoal kit supports recirculation where an outside route is unavailable. The linked owner's guide names PVM9215 on its cover, and GE's exact DFBB product link resolves the full black identifier. The Power Saver control can darken the display after one idle minute; darkness in that setting need not indicate a power failure.

MyPlate and steam are different guided programs

MyPlate is the distinctive food menu here, with grain, vegetable, ground meat, poultry and seafood groups. Its guide offers rice, oatmeal, popcorn, macaroni and quinoa under grains; vegetables can vary by fresh, frozen or canned form. Select the food with the dial, enter an amount when asked, and allow a sensor choice to run without opening the door. Steam is a different guided sequence. The manual begins with a suitable steamer bowl whose vents are open, then prompts the user to open the door and close those vents before resuming. Pressing Start before that step can display Insert Food, a workflow instruction rather than a failed component code. Family Snacks, in contrast, covers portions of burritos, chicken nuggets, oatmeal, hot dogs, small frozen pizza and other snacks. A preset's food category and portion must match what is actually inside; a menu label alone cannot know an unusual container or quantity.

One shelf and two kinds of filter need separate care

The single wire shelf has two positions, but page twenty-four limits its use to reheating dishes on more than one level. Remove it for Popcorn, Sensor Cooking and Reheat, and do not store it on the microwave floor. Humidity rising from covered food sets sensor timing; droplets on the outside of a dish can mislead that measurement. A vented microwave-safe cover gives steam a route out. GE warns against two sensor passes on the same portion because overcooking or burning can follow; finish a cool centre with Cook Time instead. The hood's two reusable metal grease filters serve the cooktop and should be washed monthly or when needed. Recirculating installations add a different charcoal filter, which cannot be cleaned and is replaced when visibly dirty. Shelf position, grease filtration and charcoal replacement solve three separate operating questions; none diagnoses the sensor circuitry.

Use the displayed words to choose the next check

The troubleshooting page defines SENSOR ERROR narrowly. It appears if the door was opened before the sensor detected steam, or if steam did not arrive during the allowed maximum period. Keep the door closed until the countdown appears and use Cook Time when a serving still needs heat. The message alone does not prove a defective humidity sensor. CONTROL LOCKED instead means the panel was locked; holding Cancel/Off for roughly three seconds releases it. A warm floor may simply come from the cooktop light below the cavity. If the oven will not start, check the closed door, electrical supply, Start/Pause selection and any requested food type before contacting service. Report the exact words on the two-line screen and whether Steam, MyPlate or another program was running, because the Insert Food instruction belongs only to the Steam sequence.
