MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: LG WM3470CW
LG’s white WM3470CW is a five-cubic-foot front loader whose linked manual names IE, OE, PF and other display errors.
Place the white five-cubic-foot WM3470CW
LG identifies WM3470CW as the white entry in the WM3470C_ specification, with its own UPC rather than merely a shared marketing name. This is a 5.0 cubic foot front loader, 27 inches wide. Check the room in front as well as the cabinet: the official sheet gives 57¾ inches of depth with the door open. That clearance affects loading and access to the lower pump-filter cover. The linked owner's PDF names the WM3470C* family, and its eight-position control drawing matches this product line.
The white model has eight wash programs, a maximum spin speed of 1,300 rpm, and a Cold Wash option. Its four-tray dispenser separates prewash, main wash, bleach and fabric softener. These details help distinguish it from a similar-looking washer with more cycles, steam or a different control layout. Do not assume that the five-cubic-foot drum should be filled completely for every setting: the program chart and option restrictions set smaller load limits for certain treatments, regardless of the generous stated capacity.
Decode the eight-program control panel
The large knob selects a named program, while temperature, spin and soil have their own modifiers. The display reports cycle progress and estimated time. During load sensing, two dashes can appear before a time estimate is calculated; the estimate may then change with the actual load. A flashing wash, rinse or spin-stage LED identifies the active stage, and it stops flashing when Start/Pause pauses the cycle. Those changes are operating information, so record the actual letters of any suspected fault rather than interpreting every blinking light as a code.
Heavy Duty can deliberately pause agitation for two minutes or more while soaking; the manual calls this normal. Speed Wash, by contrast, is intended for just two or three lightly soiled pieces under three pounds. Cold Wash uses cooler water and extends washing and rinsing to maintain performance; LG recommends loads below eight pounds for best results with that option. A longer Cold Wash run or a quiet Heavy Duty soak therefore should be evaluated against the selected program before diagnosing a control failure.
Investigate IE and OE on opposite sides of the machine
IE identifies a filling problem. The error table lists closed supply faucets, pinched inlet hoses, clogged inlet screens and insufficient household pressure. The maintenance chapter specifically says low pressure or a dirty screen can make IE blink. Inspect the supply side first, then turn off water and power before disconnecting hoses to clean the inlet filters. Refit those screens after cleaning because they protect the water valves. Removing the lower front pump filter would not address an inlet restriction and could release retained water unnecessarily.
OE instead belongs to the drain path. LG lists a kinked, trapped or blocked drain hose and warns that its end should not stand more than 96 inches above the washer base. The pump filter behind the lower access cover can also clog; the guide associates a blinking OE with that condition. Unplug the machine, place a bucket for residual water, empty the little drain hose, remove debris and secure the filter again. Check the external drain route before repeating the cycle. An incorrectly reassembled filter can leak even after the original blockage is gone.
Separate load, door and component error codes
UE points to an unbalanced spin load: a small load, a heavy article among light ones, or tangled textiles may defeat automatic redistribution. Add suitable pieces or spread them out. The dE family is about the door, which should be closed securely before restarting. A door that still reports dE after proper closure needs service according to LG. These checks differ from the usual delay while the door-lock indicator stays lit during a running cycle; do not force the door because a display code and a normal lock state have different meanings.
Internal messages have more specific actions. For tE, unplug for 60 minutes, retry and call service if the temperature/control error remains. FE reports overflow and PE a water-level sensor problem; both require closing the water taps, unplugging and contacting service. LE identifies a locked motor and allows a retry after a 30-minute wait. FF applies if the inlet hose, outlet hose or pump is frozen, so use the cold-climate procedure. None of these faults is explained by simply choosing a higher spin speed or loading more garments.
Distinguish excess suds and power loss from maintenance
This manual also describes an oversudsing message: too much detergent can stop a spin to prevent leaking. Follow the recommended dosage, then use Rinse+Spin as LG instructs. PF records a power interruption or inadequate supply during operation and calls for Start/Pause to restart. CL is different again: it means Control Lock is active, not that power has failed. tcL is a Tub Clean reminder that LG explicitly says is not an error code. Separate these four display situations before changing detergent, checking the outlet or booking a repair.
For upkeep, the guide advises an empty Tub Clean cycle each month and drying the door area after use. Smart Diagnosis provides another route when a real fault persists: start the LG ThinQ diagnosis, hold the phone near Power and hold Temp. until audible transfer begins. Keep the phone still until the transfer completes and read the app result. The app can provide extra diagnostic information, but it does not replace the manual's instruction to disconnect and seek service for overflow or sensor trouble.
