MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: LG WM3700HWA
The white LG WM3700HWA combines a twelve-cycle steam washer with a visually verified IE/UE/dE/OE fault table and water-level PF warning.
The white WM3700HWA and its controls
WM3700HWA is the white 4.5-cubic-foot member of LG's WM3700H*A front-load washer family. The exact product sheet identifies twelve programs, eleven options, a four-tray dispenser, five spin speeds and a direct-drive motor. Its support page links the multilingual owner manual whose cover names the WM3700H*A family. On the illustrated control panel, a rotary selector chooses the wash cycle while adjacent buttons change temperature, spin and soil settings. Sanitary, Allergiene, Bright Whites and Tub Clean are named on that panel, a useful distinction when comparing this washer with simpler LG models. The manual's error table belongs to this linked control family, rather than to an unrelated appliance with a similar product number.
The time display is useful but should be read correctly. After Start/Pause, the machine measures the load and can revise its estimated remaining time; a changing number is not by itself an error. Stage LEDs mark progress, and the door-lock indicator stays lit while the door is secured for a running cycle. Control Lock has its own lamp. These normal status signals matter when interpreting a complaint such as “the washer beeps but a button does nothing”: the manual's FAQ directs the user to check Control Lock first. The washer's actual fault codes are grouped later in the troubleshooting table on PDF pages 47 and 48. Treat the specific displayed characters and the observed wash symptom together before taking action.
Cycles, fabric choices and loading
The twelve-program menu gives this model more specific choices than a basic normal wash. Bright Whites is for white pieces and the manual sets a load limit of less than fifteen pounds. Perm.Press targets wrinkle-resistant clothing or table linen, Delicates is for easily damaged sheer or lacy pieces, and Towels covers towels, shirts, jeans and mixed loads. Bedding is intended for large comforters; the guide advises a low spin setting for waterproof or water-resistant pieces. Speed Wash is specifically for two or three lightly soiled garments totaling less than three pounds, with very little detergent. The downloaded-program position defaults to Small Load until another cycle is installed. These are cycle descriptions, not fault indications.
Heavy Duty uses stronger wash motion for substantial soil. The Sanitary setting uses high temperature, while Allergiene automatically incorporates steam and is aimed at reducing particular allergens; the manual cautions against using that hot cycle for wool, silk, leather and other temperature-sensitive materials. The exact product sheet confirms steam, Allergiene and Sanitary for WM3700HWA. Loading still matters more than selecting the longest cycle: combine large and small items, place large pieces in first, keep them below half the load, and leave enough room for the door to close easily. The guide warns against a lone tiny item because it may be hard to balance during spin. Sort by color, soil, fabric and lint behavior rather than asking one cycle to compensate for an unsuitable mixture.
Dispenser and routine care
The exact specification lists a four-tray dispenser for prewash, main wash, bleach and fabric softener. The owner guide explains a small practical detail: liquid detergent needs the removable liquid cup in the main compartment, whereas powder needs that cup removed. Single-use detergent pods go directly into the drum before the laundry, never in the drawer. Use high-efficiency detergent and measure it for the actual load. Excess detergent can produce the Sud message and lengthen the program because the washer adds a suds-reducing phase. A user looking at the code table should therefore inspect the detergent choice and amount before assuming an electrical failure.
Two filters connect ordinary care to later diagnostics. If filling is slow, the manual points to the screens where the inlet hoses meet the washer; shut off both faucets before removing the hoses and clean the screens without damaging them. A blocked drain-pump filter can stop water leaving the tub. The maintenance procedure first unplugs the appliance, opens the service cover, and drains residual water through the small drain hose before the filter is unscrewed. Opening the filter while the drum still contains water can spill that water. The manual also calls for regular cleaning of the drawer and door seal. These steps are concrete maintenance for the named WM3700 family, not a generic instruction to reset every fault.
Inlet and outlet messages
IE on the rendered page 47 identifies slow or absent water filling. Start with both supply faucets fully open, then inspect the inlet hoses for bends, crushing or pinching. The same table lists clogged inlet screens and weak household pressure as possible causes. If a leak-limiting hose has tripped falsely, it can also starve the washer of water. This makes IE an inlet-path diagnosis, not an instruction to replace a control board. Follow the manual's faucet and hose checks first; if the house supply itself is weak, the manual suggests checking another tap and having the plumbing corrected as needed.
OE on page 48 describes water draining slowly or not at all. The guide identifies a kinked or clogged drain hose and a discharge outlet placed more than 96 inches above the machine's bottom. The drain-pump filter procedure on page 38 provides the next practical check when debris is suspected. Distinguish this from IE: the machine may have filled normally before it reached a draining problem. In either case, note the exact display, whether water is entering or remaining in the drum, and which hose or filter was inspected. That observation is more useful for service than merely reporting that the cycle stopped. Avoid opening the filter until residual water has been drained as the manual directs.
Balance, door and service-level faults
UE means the automatic attempt to rebalance the load did not succeed. Page 47 says the program pauses so the user can adjust the contents. A very small load may need another similar item; heavy and light articles together, tangled laundry, or stuffed pillows can prevent an even spin. Door codes dE, dE1 and dE2 indicate that the door is not secured. Close it firmly and retry; if the message persists, the manual says to disconnect power and request service. These checks differ from the normal door-lock lamp, which simply shows that a running cycle has locked the door.
Page 48 also shows tE for a control error, FE for excessive water caused by a faulty valve, PE for a water-level sensor problem, and LE for a motor error. The table advises a sixty-second unplugged interval before retrying tE, closing the faucets and calling service for FE or PE, and a thirty-minute rest before another attempt for LE. PF is especially easy to misread: in this specific manual it is another water-level sensor message when the measured level is too low or high for the load, not a power-failure label. FF concerns frozen inlet, drain or pump parts. Sud signals excess foam. By contrast, CL and tCL are explicitly described as normal Control Lock and Tub Clean notices, not faults. The distinction prevents unnecessary repair requests while keeping the real water and motor messages visible.
