MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: LG WT7900HBA

The exact Black Steel LG WT7900HBA top-loader has a documented 5.5-cu-ft panel and genuine UE, IE, OE, dE, dL, LE1, tE, FE, PE, LE, Eb and PS fault messages.

Identify this top-load panel before interpreting a message

WT7900HBA is the Black Steel version of LG's 5.5-cubic-foot top-load washer. Its exact specification lists fourteen cycles, fifteen options, a 950-rpm maximum spin, a stainless wash plate and a three-tray dispenser. The matching electric dryer is DLEX7900BE. The linked owner's manual names the WT7900H*A family on its cover. Check the complete model on the washer before using its fault table: the similar-looking WM8900 is a front-loader with a different door, capacity and control arrangement.

This washer uses a cycle selector, a time-and-status display and separate modifier buttons for temperature, spin and soil. The specified Water Plus, TurboWash3D, steam and Allergiene functions help identify the intended controls. Water Plus adds water for a bulky load, although the button cannot add more once the programmed maximum level is reached. The manual explains that selecting it with Normal changes the planned cycle to Deep Wash. Such a cycle change is an operating choice, not a fault message.

Read progress and maintenance indications correctly

The three dashes shown while the washer senses a load precede the estimated duration. Stage lamps blink or stay on to show planned and active parts of a cycle, while the lid-lock lamp reports the lock's state. The time can change after the load is measured. Even a quiet interval during Heavy Duty can be normal: that cycle deliberately includes soak periods of two minutes or more. Diagnose a problem from the displayed characters and what the machine is doing, rather than from an unexpected pause alone.

CL says Control Lock is enabled; holding Tub Clean for three seconds releases it. A tcL indication asks for Tub Clean and is described as a maintenance reminder. The rendered manual also distinguishes dr, the automatic drain after a long pause, and ub, the washer's attempt to rebalance a load, from errors. During ub the machine may add water and extend the time. If the display instead reads UE and cannot regain balance, the operator needs to correct the load.

Follow the water path for IE and OE

IE means filling failed. The manual first directs attention to fully open faucets, unpinched inlet hoses and clean inlet screens. Low house pressure or a leak-limiting supply hose can also interfere. A detail especially relevant to this top-loader is the drain-hose outlet: if its end sits less than 29.5 inches above the washer base, the manual includes that placement under IE. Follow the inlet-filter cleaning procedure with power and water off, and keep the protective screens installed afterward.

OE identifies an outlet problem instead. Inspect the drain hose for a kink or clog and check that its outlet does not exceed 96 inches above the machine base. These upper and lower measurements address different failure paths, so moving the hose without reading the code may make matters worse. Water appearing during a cycle can be normal load adaptation or redistribution; a persistent OE on the display is the reason to investigate drainage. Record whether the tub still contains water before contacting service.

Separate load, lid and foreign-object faults

UE calls for an even spin load. Add similar items when the tub contains too little, separate very heavy pieces from light garments, and untangle articles before trying again. Bedding has its own program, and the manual cautions against mixing large bedding with ordinary clothes. The washer's wash plate can also reveal a different issue: LE1 is the foreign-object entry for coins or clips trapped between the pulsator and inner tub. LG directs the owner to drain and spin, empty the tub and remove the object after the spin stops.

dE and dL are different lid messages. With dE, close the lid properly and seek service if the message stays. With dL, look for clothing or packing material beneath the lid, confirm the latch can retract, close it and press Start/Pause to let the lock engage. A lid-lock click at the start is listed as normal noise; it is not by itself a dL fault. Do not defeat the latch to force a wash. Note the exact two-character message when reporting a recurring closure problem.

Use the manual's distinct service responses

tE concerns temperature sensing; disconnect the washer for sixty minutes and seek service if the code returns. LE, without the numeral 1, is the motor entry and calls for a thirty-minute rest before restarting. FE means the water level is too high, while PE means the level sensor is not working correctly. For both water-level faults the manual instructs the owner to close the faucets, unplug the machine and call service. These responses differ from redistributing a UE load or checking an IE tap.

Eb is the clutch failure entry; unplug the unit and contact service. The final supply-voltage entry appears as PS in the rendered page, although PDF extraction reads the first letter differently. It calls for LG service rather than experimenting with household wiring. Keep the code, cycle and time of occurrence in your service notes. The exact product also has Speed Wash and an Allergiene cycle that automatically uses steam; neither a high-temperature program nor its normal control indicators should be relabeled as a diagnostic code.
