MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: Midea MAT14R2ZWT
MAT14R2ZWT cooling-only 230-V wall AC: six applicable PDF faults, with heat-only HS excluded.
Identify the cooling-only 14,000-BTU version
MAT14R2ZWT is the 230-V through-wall Midea air conditioner listed for cooling rooms up to 700 square feet. The manufacturer's exact page classifies it as Cool Only and gives a capacity line of 14,000/13,600. It does not advertise a heating function. The product weight is 75.19 pounds, and the body measures 24.21 inches deep, 20.28 wide and 14.35 high. That combination matters when matching a sleeve or distinguishing the appliance from a 12,000-BTU or heating sibling. The listing says the unit is no longer available, but its owner PDF remains directly linked. The manual covers several wall/window models, including MAT14R2ZWT and MAT14H2ZWT on the same cover. A shared cover is not evidence that the cooling-only unit has the H-model's heater. Read the actual plate and product type before following a repair suggestion.
Exclude the heat-only instruction
The generic control picture and remote guide show a Heat choice for some family members, but both explicitly say cooling-only appliances do not support that mode. On MAT14R2ZWT, lack of warm air is expected and is not an HS electric-heating-sensor failure. HS appears in the shared PDF's seven-code list because the manual also covers H-suffix models; it is excluded from this model's applicable code list. Use Cool for active cooling, Dry to remove moisture with a low automatic fan, and Fan Only when ventilation without a temperature setpoint is wanted. The normal setpoint range in controlled modes is 62–86°F. In Fan Only, the front display shows room temperature; HI or LO can indicate a reading beyond its range, not a fault. These distinctions prevent an owner from ordering a heater this SKU never had.
Explain cycles and reminders before diagnosing
Midea says the unit restarts with its recent settings after an outage, so a previously chosen Cool or Dry mode can reappear when electricity returns. A timer can start or stop it in half-hour increments until ten hours and whole-hour increments until twenty-four. Energy Saver lets the fan continue three minutes after the compressor stops, then samples room air in two-minute bursts at ten-minute intervals. A cycling fan is not automatically E3, the fan-stall error. C-SENSE is another source of apparent behavior changes: the remote measures temperature at its location and sends a signal every three minutes, but the function ends if that signal is absent for seven. The Check Filter lamp comes on after 250 hours; clean the air filter and reset the reminder. That lamp is maintenance feedback rather than one of the six applicable codes.
Read the six applicable fault strings
The rendered display table on PDF page 32 lists AS for a room-temperature sensor, ES for an evaporator-temperature sensor, CS for a condenser-side sensor, oS for another room-temperature sensor label, E3 for stalled fan and E0 for failed EEPROM parameters. The lower-case o in oS is easy to mistake for zero; copy exactly what the display shows. The table also prints HS, but that refers to an electric heating sensor and does not fit this manufacturer's Cool Only classification. For any applicable listed fault, the manual's owner action is to unplug and reconnect, then call service if the same message returns. A reset is not an instruction to open the cabinet or bypass a sensor. Report the model suffix together with code, room conditions and whether the unit was cooling, drying or only circulating air.
Use the manual without inheriting every family feature
The same owner PDF shows a typical control panel, not a promise that every pictured function exists on every SKU. This matters particularly when an older MAT14R2ZWT is being serviced after the product left the catalogue. Record which buttons, remote and displays are actually present; verify the 230-V rating from the installed label before arranging electrical work. If cooling seems weak without an error, check that Cool rather than Fan Only was selected, the setpoint is below room temperature and an Energy Saver fan pause is not being mistaken for compressor failure. A full error string, particularly E3 or E0, should be preserved for the technician. The local article supplies an index to the official PDF and its code page; the exact manual remains the authority for safe operation and installation.
