MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: Samsung DW80CG4021SR/AA
Samsung DW80CG4021SR/AA: nine documented blinking cycle-light patterns and exact 14-setting variant guidance.
Exact 4021 identity
The Canadian listing for Samsung DW80CG4021SR/AA is specific about the equipment behind the stainless door: hidden touch controls, fourteen place settings, a 53 dBA noise rating and an adjustable upper rack. Samsung's separate specification sheet names the complete SKU, while the owner guide groups it under DW80CG40. The appendix is the important scope check: DW80CG402 models have fourteen settings and DW80CG405 models have fifteen. The shared cover must therefore not tempt us to borrow the other variant's capacity or optional hardware. This model's listing says Heated Dry, and the spec identifies a digital leak sensor and a silverware basket. It does not establish that this particular SKU has the manual's optional AutoRelease drying or optional third rack. Its four named wash programs and four cycle lamps are also the key to reading faults: this panel reports patterns of blinking lights rather than two-character E numbers.
Ordinary panel behavior
Press Power to wake the panel, choose Auto, Normal, Heavy or Express 60, then press Start before closing the door. The owner's three-second door window matters if a cycle seems to ignore the touchpad; open the door, press Start again and close it promptly. Holding Heated Dry for three seconds activates or releases Control Lock. With the lock on, its lamp can blink when another key is touched, which is expected feedback rather than one of the information-code combinations. The Clean lamp reports a finished cycle, and Rinse Refill asks for liquid rinse aid. Hi-Temp Steam Wash raises the main-wash temperature for baked-on food but is unavailable with Express 60. Sanitize has its own lamp behavior as the final rinse reaches its target. Reading these ordinary indications first prevents a normal option light from being mistaken for an inlet or leakage alert.
Water and heating alerts
The code chart on page 26 uses the order Auto, Normal, Heavy and Express 60; a starburst around a lamp means blinking. Express 60 alone means no water, while Normal together with Express 60 means a water-supply check. Both relate to filling, but the manual lists different possible causes, including a closed tap, an inlet component or flow-sensing trouble; neither pattern proves one defective part. Heavy alone is high water level. Normal alone is water leakage, a distinction that should change what the owner does next. For an overflow Samsung says to turn off the main water supply before calling service, and water left in the base pan should be removed before any restart. Heavy plus Express 60 signals that required temperature was not reached. It is a heating result, not permission to replace a heater without diagnosis, because the table also names sensor and control possibilities.
Sensor and touch alerts
Three other patterns narrow the type of technical warning. Normal and Heavy blinking together represent a thermistor open circuit; adding Express 60 to those two changes the meaning to a thermistor short circuit. A photograph of all four cycle positions helps preserve that difference for a technician. Auto plus Express 60 points to abnormal touch-button operation, and Auto with Normal and Express 60 is the abnormal-signal pattern. Samsung mentions a button pressed for more than thirty seconds as an example for the touch warning, but the same table lists electronic-board possibilities; a single glance cannot establish the failed component. Avoid translating these lamp groups into unrelated 4C, LC or E-series codes from other Samsung dishwashers. If the actual light arrangement is outside the nine rows, the owner guide directs users to Samsung rather than offering a guessed repair.
Wash setup and care
The four cycles answer different cleaning needs: Auto senses soil early, Normal handles ordinary dinner dishes, Heavy is for stubborn residue, and Express 60 is the lighter-load choice. The upper rack should be adjusted before loading; its higher position admits twelve-inch plates below, and the guide warns that removing it during a wash harms performance. The detergent table is unusually useful for this exact layout: Auto or Normal takes twenty grams in the main dispenser and ten grams for prewash; Heavy or Express 60 takes thirty and fifteen. Only liquid rinse aid belongs in the rinse reservoir. If dishes remain dirty without blinking code symbols, check spray-nozzle clearance, the filter's clockwise reassembly, loading and the manual's 20–120 psi supply range before treating ordinary poor cleaning as an electronic fault. For weak drying, the manual also points to rinse aid and load arrangement; these checks do not cancel a genuine leakage or over-level warning.
